SCBWI-Iowa
About SCBWI
Founded in 1974, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is an international organization supporting 12,000 members worldwide, and is the largest writer's organization in the United States. It is also the only one specifically geared for those interested in, or already working in, the field of writing and illustrating for children in books, magazines, multimedia, or television. Members of SCBWI receive a number of exciting direct benefits, such as member discounts, annual grants and fellowships, free publications, a bimonthly newsletter The Bulletin, and much more.
SCBWI of Iowa is one of 70 chapters around the globe. Under the leadership of our hard-working director Connie Heckert, SCBWI-Iowa has grown in exciting ways:
- March - Member Schmooze (an informal lunch at an area restaurant)
- May - Spring Seminar (featuring a guest speaker, booksale, & doorprizes)
- October - Writers' Conference/Weekend Retreat
- Inside Story - our quarterly newsletter. Includes reports on national and local events, contests and awards, good news from local authors/illustrators, and more. Click here to learn how to subscribe.
