Jeni Reeves
Jeni Reeves is a children's book illustrator and figurative/landscape painter. People and nature motivate this artist whose peripatetic life and previous experience in a range of art disciples influence the way she works. Born in Upstate New York, she studied art and sculpture in Italy. She worked in photography, television, film-making, graphic design and illustration in New York and London. Painting throughout her career, she concentrated on it in Africa. Numerous exhibitions followed, including solo shows for the British Council, Nairobi, Jadite Galleries, New York City, University of Iowa's Project Art, and one in process for Cedar Rapids African American Museum.Her interest in children's books encompasses both fiction and non-fiction. As author/illustrator she is working on projects in folklore, mythology, and historical fiction. She has illustrated eight non-fiction books for Carolrhoda Books: Booker T. Washington by Thomas Amper, Colors of Kenya by Fran Sammis, Babe Didrickson Zaharias by Jane Sutcliffe, The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth by Jean L.S. Patrick, Voice of Freedom: A Story About Frederick Douglass by Maryann N. Weidt, Colors of Russia by Shannon Zemlicka, Pocahontas by Shannon Zemlicka, and Ramadan by Susan L. Douglass.
