"If I knew everything in advance, I'd find it tedious to sit at my desk for hours each day scratching out the story.
Instead, I'm at my desk fifteen minutes after I get out of bed in the morning;
I can't wait to find out what's going to happen next in the novel.
I am audience as well as author."

~ Sid Fleischman

even so does inaction
spoil the intellect."

"All the Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
Layin in the sun,
Talking about the things
They woulda-coulda-shoulda done . . .
But those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
All ran away and hid
From one little did."

Larry Burkett, cofounder of Crown Financial Ministries (March 3, 1939 - July 4, 2003)

"'Our money and possessions don't belong to us; they belong to God,' said Burkett, who spent much of his life teaching people how to manage their finances...'God has given us the authority to be stewards of our money and possessions, and the responsibility to faithfully manage them according to the principles in the Bible.'"

~ Larry Burkett (March 3, 1939 - July 4, 2003)

My coauthors enjoyed Larry's friendship for the past 17 years,
and we are deeply grateful for his example. He will be greatly missed.

Our joy that hath no end."

but what we are unable to say."

~ Anais Nin

3/9/03:

Fred Rogers, famous for donning his sweater on his award-winning show, "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" airing nationally for 35 years, died recently but left a legacy of love. At the end of every show, Fred Rogers changed back into his real-life clothes, replacing his shoes and sweater.

"People wear all sorts of things," he liked to say. "But the best part is the part that's on the inside. That's what's really you--the person inside."

More quotes of insight from everyone's neighbor, Mr. Rogers:

"I feel the greatest gift we can give to anybody is the gift of our honest self."

"I have really never considered myself a TV star.
I always thought I was a neighbor who just came in for a visit."

"We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility.
It's easy to say 'It's not my child, not my community,
not my world, not my problem.'
Then there are those who see the need and respond.
I consider those people my heroes."

~ Fred McFeely Rogers (1928-2003)
